Connection, Trust & Empathy

are your Marketing Superpowers

How emotionally resonant messaging transforms your heart-centred Business

Here's something no one tells you when you start a heart-centered business:

The hardest part isn't the work itself.
It's not the sessions, the transformations, or the deep care you bring.

The hardest part is knowing how to talk about it so people understand why it matters and want to work with you.

And I don't blame you if one more "Ideal Client Avatar" worksheet makes you want to throw your laptop out the window. You've probably answered the prompts, done the exercises, followed the advice many times.

But you're still sitting there staring at a blank screen, not knowing what to say...

😔

It's not that the worksheets were wrong - it's that they never showed you how to turn those insights into something practical you can actually use in the day-to-day running of your business.

Marketing your business means sharing your work in many ways - writing newsletters, creating social posts, introducing yourself on calls, explaining what you do to someone new, updating your bio, refining your offers…
It never really stops.

And while the volume of content can be a challenge on its own, there’s something that makes all of it a lot harder:

$

Not knowing the key topics you can return to over and over again.

$

Not knowing how to talk about your work so people understand the value of your work and why it matters.

This is the core of the problem.
Because before you can write good posts and newsletters, you need to know the message underneath it.

And for that you need clarity.

Messaging gives structure to everything you say - the core ideas and perspectives you return to over and over.

And when your message is clear, it helps you express your work in a way people can immediately understand and connect with.

But when you don’t have that inner clarity, even simple tasks take way more energy than they need to.

Here’s why the absence of clear messaging makes marketing feel confusing, inconsistent, or overwhelming:

How unclear Messaging makes
Marketing Harder

1.
Without Clear Messaging, Every Marketing Task Becomes an Impossible Decision

When your messaging isn't clear, marketing doesn't feel hard because you don't know how to do it - it feels hard because every single piece of content needs you to answer questions you don't have answers to:

Who is this for?
What do they actually need to hear?
What do I want to be known for?
Does this reflect what I really believe?

Without clarity, these questions don't guide you - they stop you in your tracks.

And you're not making these choices once. You're making them over and over, for every post, every newsletter, every conversation.

This is why the blank page feels so impossible. It's not writer's block. It's not lack of discipline.

It's that your mind has no clear direction to work in.
There are too many possible angles, topics, and ways to approach your work. Everything feels equally relevant - which means nothing becomes specific enough to help you start.

So the page stays blank. Not because you lack ideas, but because your ideas have nothing to gather around.

When your messaging is clear, everything shifts.

🧭

You’re no longer navigating without a compass. You have anchors -  clear talking points you return to again and again. You know what you stand for, who you're here for, and what you want to be known for.

The questions don't disappear, but the answers are finally there.

Ideas start flowing because your attention has direction. You spot relevant stories, examples, and insights in everyday moments. You can create a plan around what matters most.

And as you talk over and over about the most important things, people get to know you, trust you, and understand why your work matters.

Messaging clarity is a superpower for heart-centred business owners

When you have anchors - clear talking points you can return to over and over again, marketing becomes much easier.

2.
Without clarity, you can't show up with confidence

Here's what many heart-centered solopreneurs don't realize:

You already have something special.
Your work is already valuable.
You already have a unique perspective that matters.

But if you haven't done the work to articulate what that is...
If you haven't clarified what makes your work different, why your perspective matters, what you truly believe, and how you help...
You can't show up with confidence.

Because you're not grounded in your own truth.

Instead, you're showing up with hesitation:

$

Do I sound like everyone else?

$

Is my work actually valuable?

$

Am I allowed to say this?

$

What if someone asks me what I do and I can't explain it clearly?

It's the natural result of trying to be visible without having clarified the message that roots you. Without that clarity, showing up feels unsafe because you're not anchored internally.

You lose energy to self-doubt. You hesitate. You question your value. You second-guess what you're offering.

And just to be completely clear: this is not because you lack expertise or experience, but because you haven't yet put words to what makes you and your work, matter. And if you haven’t got that clear for yourself, you also can’t communicate it to someone else.

But this completely changes when your messaging is clear. Because then you're grounded in your own truth, meaning that:

💎
You know what makes your work special.
You know why your perspective matters.
You know what you believe and how you help.

And that groundedness makes it so much easier and lighter to show up confidently and consistently. It shifts where your energy goes - away from self-doubt, and back into the work itself.

messaging clarity- rooted in your truth - confident

Messaging clarity shifts where your energy goes - away from self-doubt, and back into sharing your work.

3.
Most marketing advice, frameworks and templates assume you already have clarity...

and they don't show you how to get there...

If you’re like me, then you've probably tried following marketing advice before.

You've downloaded the templates, filled out the worksheets, and followed the content calendars.

But still... it didn't quite work

And that’s not because the advice was bad, but because it assumed you'd already done foundational work that no one actually taught you how to do.

Here's some examples:

An "Ideal Client Avatar" worksheet asks for demographics - age, location, income. But it doesn't help you understand what worries them on a deeper level, what they believe about themselves, or why your work would resonate with them specifically.

An email newsletter template gives you a structure: share a story, teach a tip, link to your offer. But it doesn't help you figure out which stories illustrate your message, which tips align with your philosophy, or how to talk about your offer without feeling salesy.

A content calendar tells you to post consistently - Monday educational, Wednesday behind-the-scenes, Friday engagement. But it doesn't tell you what to teach, which behind-the-scenes moments matter to your audience, or what questions will create meaningful engagement.

"

The deeper issue is this:

These tools aren't designed to help you discover your message. They’re helpful if you already have your message and just need help expressing and applying it.

So when you try to use them without that foundation, they don't feel helpful -  they feel like another thing that’s hard.

But it's the exact work that has to come first.

When your messaging is clear, templates and strategies suddenly do work  because you're no longer trying to fill blanks with guesses. You have something real to say, and the tools actually help you say it more effectively.

Now let’s slow down and look at  what messaging actually is and why it matters so deeply, especially for heart-centred solopreneurs.

What is Messaging, actually?

In the simplest terms, messaging is everything you share about your business.

And more specifically, messaging means having clarity and language around three essential things:

1: what you stand for,
2:
who you're here to help, and
3: how your offer makes a difference.

But for heart-centred solopreneurs, messaging needs to go deeper than just clarity. Because the way you want to connect with people is fundamentally different.

Why Heart-Centred Solopreneurs Need Different Messaging

If you're here reading this, you probably want something different from the aggressive, fear-based marketing that's everywhere online.

You don't want to trigger FOMO or manufacture urgency to get people to buy. Instead, you want to work from love, not fear.  And with inspiration, not lack.

And that means your marketing superpowers are
emotional connection, trust, and empathy.

The science behind why Heart-Centred Messaging works

When we talk about empathy, trust, and emotional connection in marketing, it can sound soft - like a preference or a personal style.

But neuroscience tells a very different story.

There’s a very interesting book by Matthew Lieberman (an American researcher and professor of psychology), titled “Social: Why Our Brains Are Wired to Connect”. It brings together many findings from pshychology, and shows that the human brain is fundamentally designed for connection.

We’re not first and foremost about analysis, logic, or decision-making... Our brain is  wired to understand people.

To me, one of the most exciting insights of the book is that when the brain isn’t focused on a specific task, it doesn’t rest, but it goes social.

Your mind is made to reflect on other people: their feelings, intentions, relationships, and what it all means. This network is so central that researchers call it the brain’s default mode.

In other words, our mind’s natural resting state is not analytical, it’s social.

Human brains didn’t grow larger to solve abstract problems, but to make sense of increasingly complex social worlds and human connections.
~  This matters deeply for marketing ~

Because it means that when someone encounters your message - a post, a newsletter, a sentence on your website - their brain is automatically asking social questions first:

Who is this person?
Do they understand me?
Do I feel safe here?
Can I trust their intention?

Long before logic kicks in, the social brain is already at work trying to figure out what is going on and how it feels about it. The brain actually uses different systems for analytical thinking and social understanding - and they don’t always cooperate. When messaging becomes overly technical, dense, or impersonal, it can quiet the social brain and create distance. But when communication is warm, clear, and emotionally attuned, the brain’s connection systems stay engaged.

We’re naturally drawn to stories, experiences, feelings, and meaning - not just information. This is why emotional connection isn’t a “nice extra” in marketing - it’s the biological entry point.

And it helps explain something you probably sense intuitively:

When you speak from presence, care, and real understanding, people don’t just read or hear your words… they feel them.

They start to trust you and tune in, because you connected with the part of the part of the human brain that’s always listening; the social part - the reason we have such big brains.

Approaching marketing this way is fundamentally different from fear-based, hype marketing.

Connection-based heart-centred marketing and fear-based marketing
both “work” - but they activate completely different systems in the brain, and they lead to very different outcomes.

Marketing Through Two Completely Different Pathways

~ Fear & Hype-based Marketing ~

This style of marketing - shaped by urgency, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), pressure, and persuasion tactics activates the brain's threat and survival systems.
It works by triggering:

Loss avoidance
the fear of missing out on something valuable

Social comparison
the worry that others are getting ahead while you're falling behind

Scarcity
the pressure that time is running out or spots are limited

Fear of being left out
the anxiety of not being part of something everyone else is doing

Fear of getting it wrong
the dread of making the wrong choice or staying stuck

This involves the amygdala (your brain's threat detection system) and stress responses that lead to fast, reactive decision-making.

So that’s why fear-based marketing often creates urgency, leads to impulse decisions, and feels compelling in the moment - but also leaves you feeling anxious, pressured, or regretful afterward.

👇

Fear-based marketing doesn't invite understanding - it wants to trigger a short-term reaction.

It asks the nervous system: "Am I at risk if I don't act now?"

And that's very different from asking: "Is this right for me?"

fear-based messaging

Fear-based messaging triggers the brain’s survival instincts - the fear of missing out, falling behind, or getting it wrong. It can be effective in the short term, but it often bypasses reflection and creates pressure rather than trust.

~ Heart-centred Connection-based Marketing ~

Heart-centred, connection-based marketing activates a completely different network in the brain; the social and relational systems we looked at earlier.
Instead of triggering threat responses, this style of messaging creates:

Emotional safety
people feel they can take their time and think clearly

Recognition
that feeling of "they really get me"

Coherence and clarity
messages that make sense and feel aligned

A sense of being met and invited
not pushed or pressured

The decision process here is slower, but deeper.

It asks the brain:

Who is this person?
Do they understand me?
Do I feel safe here?
Can I trust their intention?

Connection-based marketing may not always produce instant spikes in sales - but it produces something far more valuable:

$

Stronger trustthat builds over time

$

Longer-term relationshipswith your audience

$
Aligned yeses from people who are truly ready
$
A more sustainable business built on genuine connection instead of manufactured urgency

When you choose heart-centred marketing, you're choosing to speak to the part of the brain that's designed for understanding, meaning, and relationship - not the part that's simply trying to avoid danger.

Connection-based marketing works with the brain instead of hijacking it.

And that changes everything about how you show up, what you create, and who you attract into your world.

connection-based messaging

Connection-based messaging activates a different system entirely: the brain’s social and relational networks. Instead of pushing people to act, it invites them to feel understood - and from there, choose consciously.

What makes truly powerful heart-centred messaging?

Gentle, heart-centred marketing creates connection on a soul level. And when you want to market this way, your messaging is your biggest asset.  Because powerful, resonant messaging makes everything you share land differently.

That's when your marketing becomes truly effective because you speak to something that’s real and alive for your audience.

This kind of connection doesn't happen by accident. It's built on a foundation of the three essential elements we talked about at the beginning of this article.  But it goes further than that. To expand on our definition of what “just” messaging is, here’s how messaging for heart-centred business owners goes beyond that:

Emotionally resonant messaging for heart-centred solopreneurs means having crystal-clear language around what you stand for, who you're here to help, and how your offer makes a difference, expressed in your own unique, authentic voice, and in a way that creates real connection, builds trust, and moves people to take action from inspiration rather than fear.

Basically;

Generic messaging means just clarity on the basics for your business (what you do, who it's for, how it helps)

Heart-centred, resonant messaging is that same clarity, but infused with:

$

Emotional Resonancepeople peel touched by what you're saying

$

Deep Recognitionthey feel seen and heard in a way that most marketing doesn't offer

$

Soul-level Connectionit lands in a way that creates trust and belonging

This is the kind of messaging that doesn't just inform - it moves people.

They read your words and think, Yes. This. This is exactly me, and this is what I've been looking for.

They feel like you understand them in a way no one else does.

They trust you before they've even worked with you, because your messaging has already created a bridge of genuine connection.

This is what makes your marketing so much more effective - not loud or pushy, but resonant. And that is important for solopreneurs that love their time on “airplane mode”.

Every time you go out on social media to share about your work, you want it to land with people and to get results.

Having resonant heart-centred messaging makes everything you do for your business more efficient.

And as a bonus, when your messaging is this clear and this deeply aligned, showing up consistently becomes so much easier. You're not trying to force something that doesn't feel like you. You're simply sharing what's true - and the right people are naturally drawn to it.

Why Getting Clarity on Your Own Is Difficult

So, if messaging clarity is so important why doesn't every business owner already have it?

The truth is that it's quite hard to get your messaging clear - especially if you’ve been trying to do that all by yourself...

Here's why:

You're too close to see it clearly

When you're living inside your business every day, it's not that easy to see the bigger picture. To get clear on your messaging you need to spot the patterns, the golden threads that run through everything, and the key themes that come back over and over again.

Of course you know your work is powerful. Because you feel it in your sessions, in the transformations you witness. But translating that feeling into clear, compelling words and key talking points…  that’s a completely different skill set. As solopreneurs we’re expected to be able to do everything, but for many of us, that’s just not realistic.

Worksheets Can Only Take You So Far

Traditional worksheets can help you reflect on the important things for your business… and that is incredibly valuable.

But those worksheets don't talk back. They don't ask important follow-up questions. And they don't help you notice what you're glossing over, or draw out the parts you didn't realize mattered. They may help a bit, but in reality they leave you with fragmented insights instead of full clarity. And even when you do surface meaningful insights, there's a second challenge: turning those insights into usable language - words that work in your marketing, your offers, your conversations. On top of that, these tools often don’t show you how to actually apply the insights in your day to day marketing.

Thorough Market Research is not feasible

You've probably been told that to truly understand your audience, you must do market research - interviews, surveys, focus groups. And it's true that can give you incredibly valuable insights.

But for many solopreneurs, especially in the early stages, the possibilities are limited. You might not have a big email list to survey. Maybe you’ve only worked with a handful of clients. And perhaps you're still building visibility, still finding your people. Plus, even if you wanted to do interviews, you might not know what questions to ask or how to extract meaningful patterns from the answers. So for many solopreneurs, thorough market research simply isn't realistic.

Real Clarity Comes Through Conversation

So how can you surface messaging clarity?  Meaningful clarity usually emerges through dialogue  - being asked the right questions at the right time, having someone gently connect the dots with you, being mirrored back so you can see yourself more clearly. A skilled coach can help you discover what you already know but haven't articulated yet… but high-touch coaching isn't accessible for everyone. And that leaves a lot of brilliant, heart-led business owners trying to figure this out alone, circling the same questions over and over.

So let me make one thing clear: if you haven’t got your messaging ducks in a row yet, this is why – not because you haven’t tried. 😅

But if getting messaging clarity alone is this difficult, traditional market research isn't feasible, and high-touch coaching isn't accessible - what's the answer?

I created the Bloompreneur Program to solve exactly this problem.

How the Bloompreneur Clarity Program helps you finally get messaging clarity

I started in 15 years ago in webdesign, and I noticed that all my clients were struggling with the same things: what to say on their web pages.

Over time, my work shifted to helping with messaging and strategy, through 1:1 support & a course with a bunch of workbooks...

Yes, I admit it ... 😅
I’ve also tried to help my clients with workbooks, because when intensive and expensive deep 1:1 work is not possible, that was all that was available!

But then something changed.
AI came on the scene, and a lightbulb came on big and bright.

🤔
Can my process in combination with AI solve the messaging enigma?
